Bird General Health

The bird general health range gathers 13 avian supplements and support formulas from Vetafarm and Mavlab: multivitamins, calcium, probiotics, energy and electrolyte concentrates, hand-rearing formulas and breeding-season products. These are husbandry products you add to drinking water, mix through soft food or feed directly. They sit alongside good diet and cage hygiene, not in place of an avian vet — a bird that is unwell should be seen by one.

What the categories cover

Vitamins and minerals make up the largest group. Soluvite D and Soluvite D Breeder are water-soluble vitamin powders, Multivet Liquid with Moulting Aid is a liquid multivitamin, and Calcivet is a liquid calcium supplement, which is why keepers of breeding pairs and laying hens tend to look for it. Triple C and Probotic sit in the gut-support group. Spark Liquid Concentrate and D'Nutrical are concentrates aimed at energy and hydration support. Poly Aid Plus, Crittacare Avian and Neocare Advanced Hand Rearing Formula are feeding formulas rather than supplements — Neocare for hand-raising chicks, the other two for supportive feeding of a bird that is not eating for itself. Breeding Aid rounds out the Vetafarm list, and Mavlab Oxymav B Powder for Birds is the one non-Vetafarm item in the collection.

Liquid, powder or concentrate

Format usually decides what actually fits your routine. Water-soluble powders dissolve into the drinker and suit an aviary where you cannot handle birds individually, but the water needs changing daily and the dose is wasted if your birds bathe in the drinker. Liquids can go into water or onto soft food, which gives you more control over what a single bird takes. Concentrates go further per bottle but have to be measured out properly. Hand-rearing and support formulas are mixed to a slurry and fed directly, and that takes technique — if you have not hand-fed before, have an experienced breeder or an avian vet show you first.
