Start with the food format

Everyday feeding splits four ways. Dry kibble is the staple — easy to portion, simple to store, and usually the most economical way to feed a complete diet. Wet food in cans and trays adds moisture and tends to suit fussy or ageing dogs. Air-dried and freeze-dried diets from Ziwi Peak, Prime100 SPD, Absolute Holistic and K9 Natural sit between raw and kibble: high meat inclusions, shelf stable, no thawing. Toppers and boosters are the fourth group, and they are meant to go on top of a complete diet rather than replace it. Inside every format, read the life stage on the pack before the flavour — puppy formulas are more energy-dense, and large-breed puppy versions control calcium during growth.

Size the gear, and the dose, to the dog

Almost everything that is not food is sized by weight, so weigh your dog before you order. Parasite treatments are banded strictly: NexGard Spectra, for example, is sold in separate packs for 3.6–7.5kg, 7.6–15kg, 15.1–30kg and 30.1–60kg dogs, and the wrong band is the wrong dose. Crates, beds, carriers and strollers carry their own limits — Ibiyaya's Grand Cruiser stroller is rated to 50kg, and MidWest crates run up to XX-Large. For collars and harnesses, measure neck and chest girth rather than working from breed. Chew toys follow the same logic: a teething toy for a puppy and a KONG Extreme are built for very different jaws.
